This week we were focusing our efforts on sending out an email campaign to local GP surgeries, gyms, supermarkets, community centres and schools to get the word out about the Hillside Hoppers Community Charity Walking Group.
I volunteered to contact local supermarkets in Southport and updated my poster (see below) to send out to ASDA, Morrisons, Sainsburys and Tesco Southport stores. I researched the appropriate department in the local store, which for most of the supermarkets was the local Community Champion. And then sent an email asking for their support by printing out my poster.
To add my own personal take to the campaign, and demonstrate the many benefits of the Hillside Hoppers walking group, I linked their activities to the NHS’s ‘5 steps to wellbeing’ programme, as follows:
Step 1: Connect with other people: We facilitate new social connections by introducing people to others in their community
Step 2: Be physically active: We walk through Birkdale Nature Reserve on the first Sunday of each month
Step 3: Learn new skills: We encourage people who are new to walking groups to join in and start a new hobby
Step 4: Give to others: We raise money to support charities in our local community
Step 5: Pay attention to the present moment (mindfulness): Our walks take the group through the breathtaking scenery of Birkdale dunes, encouraging the walkers to pause and take in the beauty of our local area
Below is the updated poster that I produced for Hillside Hoppers this week.
